Baby Registry Must Haves

Thank you to everyone who responded to my question about what to include on a baby registry! I got so many helpful responses.  Some things shared were general and some were specific products.  I also appreciated a lot of the advice I received about types of things to get (or not get!).

Here is some of the specific advice I got:

-Get lots pajamas with zippers and NO SNAPS

-Use plastic bibs, not fabric ones

-Get a backpack diaper bag, not an over the shoulder one

-Register for baby proofing and safety items

-Get a cart for diapers to put next to your bed

-"Less is best" as far as stuff!

-Register for a sound machine!

-Save the name and number of an IBCLC, and have your partner make an appointment.  Breastfeeding is a skill.

-Use cloth diapers (the kind that are a large absorbent cloth, not real diapers) as a spit-up rag

-Get a traveling sleep pod (like a little tent for babies that can get completely dark)

Here are some specific products that were recommended to me:

Monitors:

-Owlet Monitor

-YI Baby Monitor

Bouncers:

-Bjorn Bouncer

-Mamaroo

Health and Grooming:

-Red Cross Nail Clippers

-Nose Frida

-Earth Mama Organic Sitz

-Calmoseptine Ointment (for diaper rashes)

-Diaper Genie

Nursing:

-Milk Snob nursing/carseat cover

-Hakka pump

Blankets and Swaddles:

-Copper Pear Soft Swaddles

-Sleepea Swaddles

-Aden and Anais Easy Swaddles

-Saranoni Blankets

-Halo Sleepsacks

Baby Loungers:

-Dock a Tot

-Snuggle Me Organic Lounger

Our Top Books of 2020

2020 was the year of reading for the JLHL sisters. Between us we read about 100 books! We wanted to share some of our top favorites with you if you are looking for some good reads for 2021.

Psythe was a commentary on many of the issues we have in our world today. It was fascinating how to author paralleled what was happening in the future world with what happens now. Even with a "perfect" society, greed and power corrupts. -Katie

This book focused on the wife of CS Lewis and addressed some very difficult moral issues, such as how to navigate your religious convictions about marriage, fidelity, and family when you're being disrespected in your own marriage. It was inspiring to read how religion changed her life but didn't stop her from struggling with questions and problems. -Katie

If you love a good thriller/who dunnit, this book is for you! This one has you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what happened to the main character who mysteriously disappears without a trace. -Christina

This book twists and teases your brain. Written from the perspectives of a silent patient in a mental hospital and her therapist. It keeps your attention to the very last page. (Warning, there is a lot of language in this book.) -Christina and Anna

This one was fascinating! It was crazy to imagine what it would be like to wake up with 10 years of your life forgotten and to view what your life had become. -Katie, Christina, Anna

We especially love this book because it is about sisters and a mother-daughter relationship, two things near and dear to our hearts. It has a wonderful message of forgiveness, and that you never know what others have been through in their darkest times. -Anna

We love a good historical fiction book and this one did not disappoint. It was even better, because it was based on true accounts from Tennessee Children's Home Society. Fascinating, sad, and hopeful all at once. -Anna and Christina

Another book that blows your mind over and over. It is a true, honest memoir of a girl who grew up with one view of the world, then began to discover a new view as she grew up. -Anna and Christina

Another thriller that keeps you guessing. Anna suffers from agoraphobia and sees something through the window that she shouldn't have. -Christina
