Spiritual Sunday: Unconditional Love

It’s me, Katie (the elderly...er...elder...sis). We recognize that not everyone on Instagram is part of our faith; however, we believe that spirituality- whatever form that takes for you- is an extremely important part of living a happy, healthy life. For that reason; we’ve included Spiritual Sunday in our weekly lineup. I am in a little show that closes on Monday. It’s a musical revue celebrating musical theater composers over the years. One of my roles in the show is narrator. I haven’t had to memorize lines for anything for years. Last night, I knew a lot of friends and students were in the audience and I got extremely nervous. I was shaking in between my parts. During my first narration, I made a mistake and fumbled my words. I also left out a line of text. When I went back to the dressing room, I couldn’t let go of the mistake I made. I felt like the rest of my performance didn’t matter after that one mistake. My entire mood changed and I got in to my head. I started worrying about everything I was doing on stage. Consequently, during my second narration, I noticeably fumbled the very last line. I forced myself to move forward as best I could. When the show was over, there were my friends. And they loved me. They loved me despite all my mistakes, which they didn’t even mention. They were proud of me. They believed in me. One thing it has taken me 35 years to finally grasp is that God’s love is the same way. He loves me no matter what I do. If I screw up, he still loves me. If I ignore Him, He loves me. If I struggle in my faith, He still loves me. He is constant in His love, and nothing I can do can change that. That has brought me so much peace, especially in my battle against scrupulosity. Today, think about the following: what knowledge do you have that keeps you grounded in a chaotic, confusing world? What helps you most keenly feel your worth? What is spirituality to you and how can you make that a more consistent part of your life?
