Thankful Thursday: Perspective

No photo description available.Happy #thankfulthursday from me, Katie! It’s the next morning after a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day (nod to the children’s book by Judith Viorst). Today, I’m thankful for the power of perspective. I love this quote by Hemingway. Though he was talking about a physical place, I think the quote has a broader application. In the moment, some challenges feel all consuming. Once we are a bit removed from a trial, however, we can see it more accurately. For example, I heard someone at work was not happy with me. It tore me apart for 24 hours until I could speak to him personally. Once we talked, I had more perspective on what was going on. A couple hours after our conversation, I learned some more information that made me understand the situation even better. I realized my earlier suffering was needless.

When we are in the throes of something difficult, we must remember that time and/or distance will eventually grant us the beautiful gift of perspective. This can help us maintain peace of mind in the meantime.
